About Our Job

The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking qualified applicants to join the Crisis Response Team as a Therapist Supervisor. Successful candidates will be joining an experienced and dedicated team that goes above and beyond every day to provide crisis services to those within the Denver Sheriff’s Department care and custody. This position will provide both clinical and administrative supervision and consultation to mental health providers while also working in collaboration with both sworn staff and Denver Health and Hospital Authority, who provide the medical, mental health, and dental services within both of Denver’s jails, to best support those in our custody.

The Crisis Response Team is seeking individuals familiar with trauma informed care and evidence-based care to help facilitate within a multi-disciplinary team. This position will expose candidates to routine and emergent care needs for those that have not been exposed to the unique needs of clients within correctional facilities.

Passionate candidates will be fulfilled within this role in a variety of areas, including the ability to treat clients, assist other team members with feedback and observations and supervise licensed and unlicensed clinicians. This candidate will go above and beyond in providing support to team members, staff and the community. This position would be perfect for those individuals who are excited to help their community members by providing support both in the jail and in their transition to the community.

Candidates can expect to work a 4-day week/10-hour day schedule, Sunday through Wednesday.

Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Supervises staff involved in providing crisis intervention, assessment, counseling, referral, placement, and related services to clients.
  • Ensures the following functions are completed by staff in adherence to guidelines and standards: appropriate screening tools are used; client staffing's occur with relevant parties involved; clients receive appropriate interventions and interventions are coordinated and communicated to staff members involved with the client; appropriate referrals are identified and made; and discharge summaries are complete including appropriate reentry recommendations..
  • Meets with staff to provide clinical supervision and discuss status of cases and problems, approves and signs-off on clinical documentation made by unlicensed staff, reviews and discusses clients’ progress, and provides technical guidance and direction.
  • Identifies resources and programs in the community in order to make appropriate referrals and builds and maintains effective relationships with community based services providers and professional and community groups in order to exchange information, resolve concerns/complaints, and develop and maximize available resources.
  • Ensures that staff prepares comprehensive records, reports, and documentation that complies with state and federal standards and requirements.
  • Represents the department on a variety of committees and acts as a project lead on internal and external committees/groups.
  • Reviews, develops, or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments and encourages innovation. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
  • Develops goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assists staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
  • Documents causes for disciplinary action, initiates letters of reprimand, and makes formal recommendations for disciplinary action. Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written responses.
  • Provides mental health related training to department staff, including but not limited to, in-service training, Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), etc.


About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Licensed Clinical Social Work certification and licensure
  • At least a year of supervisory experience, supervising clinical staff members
  • Experience in a correctional setting, including either a jail or prison
  • Experience implementing and building an innovative team


Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:

  • Education requirement: Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Marriage and Family Counseling, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience working as a behavioral health clinician.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • Licensure Requirement: By position, possession of a Licensed Profession Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Addiction Counselor (ACD) under the provisions of the Colorado Revised Statutes for the State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addiction Counselor or Social Worker Examiners. OR By position, possession of a clinical license issued by the Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners such as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). OR If you hold a current, equivalent license in another state, you must obtain licensure with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) prior to the start date. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
