The Mission of the Denver District Attorney's Office is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and humane administration of justice. The office employs approximately 120 attorneys and 180 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is John Walsh.
What You’ll Do
The Denver District Attorney’s Office is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as their Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement. The position will specialize in mission-driven outreach and engagement, building partnerships and collaborative initiatives between the community and law enforcement.
The Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement will be charged with leading community discussions and outreach along with providing guidance to the DA senior leadership team with regards to community outreach and engagement to ensure streamlined activities and outcomes in carrying out the District Attorney’s mission and vision.
The successful candidate will provide strategic direction under the leadership team and will work cross-functionally with other entities city wide. The selected individual will work confidently with community leaders and the citizens of Denver, school officials, neighborhood organizations, city agencies and other governmental and law enforcement organizations, non-profits, community partners to establish goals, partnerships, and leverage collective resources.

The job duties of the Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive community outreach and engagement program for the DA's office and for its prosecutors and staff to promote transparency and citizen engagement
- Review, assess and implement appropriate community and special issue advisory board
- Cultivate robust relations with community organizations, neighborhood organizations, city agencies, Denver Public Schools, nonprofits organizations, etc.
- Oversee external outreach and community information communications
- Foster the Citizens’ Academy program
- Supervise community engagement team and volunteers
- Work with the District Attorney and leadership team on community related engagement and policy issues
- Convene, facilitate and represent neighborhood and community meetings, events, workgroups and with individuals as the representative of the district attorney’s office; report outcomes to the DA and senior leadership team
- Act as the office’s liaison with City Council members and/or their staff
- Regularly contribute to a shared calendar of community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities
- Coordinate regularly with the Director of Communications on outreach and engagement activities. Work with the Director to produce any collateral to support community outreach and engagement efforts
- Support the district attorney, senior staff & district attorney employees in managing, staffing and scheduling regular community partner touch points to maintain relationships and foster connections
- Coordinate with agencies and departments within the City & County of Denver, including agency heads, community engagement teams and government affairs teams to ensure effective communication and synergy between the DA’s office and those entities
- Performs other duties as required and or assigned. Duties may be revised and expanded as required

Our ideal candidate will some or all of the following:
- Have a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in community relations and engagement on behalf of government and community organizations
- Have a minimum of five (5) years' experience managing event planning committees
- Leadership in community engagement strategies, and professional experience in direct community relationship development
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team facilitation skills
- Be politically savvy and a confident public speaker
- Previous experience working for an executive or elected official
- Deep understanding and/or lived experiences of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion issues at the intersection of multi-cultural community engagement and workplace dynamics
- Knowledge of city agencies, Denver City Council, Denver Police Department, Denver Sheriff’s and other governmental entities
- Knowledge of standard office practice and procedures sufficient to be able to process various types of paperwork associated with office support duties
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and laws relative to the specified area
- Skill in utilizing computer software to accomplish a variety of tasks
- Skill in facilitating highly confidential matters
- You demonstrate exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team facilitation skills
- You motivate, model, encourage and create a collaborative and positive culture that encourages mission and community engagement
- You have the ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a diversity of groups including community members, elected officials and others
- You are excited to champion the mission and vision of the Denver District Attorney’ office
- You are an active listener and bring a hands-on, participatory approach
- You have a track record of being dependable and working non-traditional workplace hours
- You are politically savvy and a confident public speaker

- Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).
- Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- License/Certifications: Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
