The Denver Sheriff Department is the largest Sheriff Department agency in the state of Colorado and is comprised of many divisions and diverse operations with over 1,000 uniformed and non-uniformed staff members. These operations include two separate jails, security for the District and County court systems, state transportation, extradition duties, fugitive and K-9 units and security at Denver Health Medical Center.

The Denver Sheriff Department (DSD) is seeking a Presentence Case Manager to join the Programs Team. The Presentence Case Manager will play a vital role by screening, assessing, and providing case management to individuals in custody. This consists of incarcerated male and female individuals who have been booked into custody three (3) or more times within the last twelve (12) months.

The Presentence Case Manager will meet with clients individually to address intervention needs, transition planning, and resource navigation and work collaboratively with individuals, colleagues, community resources and partners to create unique and individual plans that best address each client's needs. This candidate will be flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing client needs and carrying a shorth team case load.

This is a full-time position, working Monday-Friday with flexibility and potential work from home opportunities.

This position will work primarily at our Downtown Detention Center located at 490 W Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80204, which only has pay to park options; and may continue to work with clients who transition to the Denver County Jail located at 10500 Smith Road, Denver, CO 80201.

Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.

Job responsibilities will include :

  • Develop individualized transition plans that includes services to be offered while in custody, support connections to resources / services available in the community, and warm handoffs with community providers and other system-based agencies to enhance post-release engagement.
  • Develop and foster relationships with community providers and other system-based agencies to support wrap-around services.
  • Support referrals to internal programming offered by the Programs team or other stakeholders such as life skill classes, religious services support, groups, access to self-paced work, substance use and mental health programming, etc.
  • Work in collaboration with community providers to support completion of admission requirements such as applications and interviews.
  • Prepare and conduct various life skill classes and groups.
  • Maintaining client files and records consistent with departmental policies and local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Observing and documenting client behavior and physical conditions and reporting abnormalities and / or problems to sworn and / or medical staff reports any abnormalities and / or problems to medical staff.
  • Implementing behavior management programs / techniques and appropriate intervention techniques.
  • Support team process improvement and data collection efforts, attend team meetings, serve on committees to discuss issues, and recommend changes to improve services for clients and other governmental agencies for the purpose of client reentry efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate will have :

  • 1-3 years of experience working with case management, milieu management, substance misuse education, and / or cognitive behavioral interventions.
  • Experience working with justice-involved population.
  • Experience working in a secured environment such as a jail or prison setting.
  • Prior class and or group facilitation experience.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word Skills
  • Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position :

  • Education requirement : Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement : One (1) year of experience in performing case management including completing comprehensive needs assessments and developing and implementing case plans. Or one (1) year of experience in case work and counseling in areas such as Diversion, Probation, alcohol and drug abuse, community based treatment case management, or a closely related area.
  • Education / Experience Equivalency : One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License / Certifications : By position, requires eligibility to possess a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) certificate or an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation Specialist (ADES) Certification from the State of Colorado at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
