The Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for two (2) certified lifeguards to become an essential part of either their Manoa and/or Aiea team as a Pool Lifeguard! Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining constant surveillance of the designated pool and performing lifeguarding tasks, including performing rescues and administering emergency life support measures, applying immediate First Aid or CPR as needed;
- Monitoring participants for compliance with rules and regulations applicable to the assigned pool and reporting infractions to the proper authorities. Informing supervisor of all serious violations and incidents;
- In the absence of the Pool Custodian, maintaining safe operational levels of pool chlorination and filtration systems;
- Picking up/dropping off documents and supplies, and attending training or meetings as assigned;
- Operating all pool equipment and maintaining lifeguarding equipment in top usable condition at all times;
- Compiling reports such as chemical testing, daily attendance, and accidents/incidents, as well as opening and closing facilities daily;
- Seeking professional improvement by attending aquatic-related meetings, conferences, clinics, and workshops; and
- Performing special assignments related to aquatics and other related duties as required.
Special Working Conditions: Work schedule may vary. This role may involve conducting swimming rescues during emergencies and exposure to varying weather conditions, pool chemicals, acids, and gaseous chlorine. Additionally, this position will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, at time of application.
