ENGINEERING SUPPORT TECHNICIAN III (SR-19) [1 vacancy]

The Department of Design and Construction is hiring for an Engineering Support Technician III in Honolulu.  This position performs difficult and complex technical functions in support of professional engineering activities including database management of existing street lights, maintaining inventory of all City equipment on jointly owned utility poles with HECO, review and approve trenching permits in City roads, gathering as-built data for CIP projects, and emergency response planning.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with the development and use of GIS-based conflict resolution software to identify and resolve potential construction scheduling conflicts.
  • Monitoring and resolving data accuracy and software functionality to identify and report potential project conflicts.
  • Assisting with compiling project status data from project managers, including project schedules, tracking projects experiencing delays, and tracking closure of completed projects. 
  • Coordinating with staff to produce various CIP reports and maps, as required, and to export CIP data to other users for purposes of coordination, mapping, and related activities.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five years of technical experience in engineering oriented support functions such as in research, data collection and analysis, inspection, testing, designing, surveying and/or drafting activities.

Desirable Experience:  Extensive computer/database management skills.

Substitution
  1. An associate's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences will substitute for two of the required five years of experience. 
  2. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for three of the required five years of experience.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
