The Department of the Corporation Counsel , Litigation Division, located in Honolulu is looking for an Investigator III. This position has the responsibility for conducting investigations of the most complex, confidential and technical claims and litigation cases; adjusting of same for non-litigation cases against and for the City; and serving as the Chief Investigator in the absence of the supervisor.
Special Working Conditions: Must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, investigative work that requires moderate to arduous physical exertion, including but not limited to, the ability to: (a) ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs; (b) move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces to access an investigation site; (c) traverse irregular and steep terrain; (d) bend, crawl on hands and knees, and/or reach and lift to perform inspections; and (e) lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds. Work schedule may be adjusted to include evenings, weekends and holidays. Use of personal vehicle.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with major work in police science, sociology, psychology, public administration, or a related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. Experience Requirement
Three (3) years of investigational or law enforcement experience.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of: investigational methods and techniques; the rules of evidence and laws of arrest; court procedures and legal instruments; the jurisdiction and functions of the various law enforcement and other governmental agencies and departments; interviewing and interrogating techniques; report writing; the geographic, economic, social and racial composition of the community; and the ability to: interpret laws, rules, and regulations; make sound observations, remember facts, and give testimony based thereon; secure and analyze data; prepare clear and concise reports; size up people and situations; understand the psychology of human behavior; deal effectively with the public and representatives of other government agencies.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: Experience in investigation of claims relating to personal injury and property damages; experience in adjusting of claims and negotiation of claims settlement; experience in litigation investigation involving pre-trial investigations and discovery in tort and civil litigation cases.
License Requirement
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
