What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANNER V (GENERAL CITY/URBAN PLANNING) (SR-24) [1 vacancy] position at City and County of Honolulu?
There is one (1) vacancy in the Department of Planning and Permitting, Planning Division, Development Plans & Zone Changes Branch. Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Participate in the development and updates of long-range regional plans and special area plans.
- Monitoring compliance with conditions of unilateral agreements (UAs) via reviewing and commenting on various applications and plans. Reviewing annual reports and updating staff monitoring reports for UAs.
- Assists with reviewing affordable housing projects for compliance with applicable requirements pursuant to the UAs and Chapter 29 ROH, from the entitlement phase to the post-construction phase.
- Independently reviewing, evaluating and drafting reports recommending action on proposals for zone change and zoning district boundary adjustment.
- Conduct research by gathering and analyzing land use, economic, social and environmental data related to assigned projects.
- Responding to inquiries and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Principles, practices, purposes, and scope of techniques of the various phases of city planning;
- Trends in Federal, State and local planning as they affect city planning;
- Research methodology and statistical procedures;
- Sources and uses of socio-economic information; and
- State and local laws and ordinances related to city planning.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Four years of professional (post-bachelor's degree, non-clerical) experience in architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research, including or supplemented by two years of professional work experience in city planning or related planning activities.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
