The Information Technology (IT) Department is a service and support department of the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position typically works a 7.5-hour day (Monday through Friday). Your start and finish times will be determined on start date but will be between 7 : 30am - 8 : 30am and your finish time will match accordingly between 4 : 00pm and 5 : 00pm. Your office is in Auke Bay, with frequent visits to the IT field office Downtown.
Typical Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Routinely maintain awareness of network health monitoring for performance, stability, and / or outages. Works to troubleshoot and resolve issues when needed. Will develop baselines for reporting and for predicting future problems.
Installs and maintains network software and equipment such as firewalls, switches, and routers. Tasks include diagnostic checks during maintenance, ensuring software and firmware are up to date, and monitoring network performance.
Installs, configures, and maintains network service software on CBJ servers, workstations, and appliances. May include integration of CBJ networks with third party network appliances.
Is the Primary Subject Matter Expert for network related help tickets. Provides backup and support to the CSS-II and CSS-III positions performing desktop and application end user support. Answers inquiries from CBJ IT customers as to use and capabilities of hardware and software; assesses needs of individual customer or customer groups and recommends specific solutions.
Assist the Network Specialist II position to provide support for Active Directory, ensures domain controllers are functioning efficiently. Will work with other CBJ IT staff in the maintenance, administration, and development of GPO's. Will work to answer general network help requests.
Install and maintain microwave radio communications gear. This involves work on towers or elevated work platforms, as well as occasional helicopter transportation to tower sites. CBJ will fund tower climbing certification.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience : One (1) year of technical experience in computer or telecommunications support that included network maintenance and troubleshooting duties.
Substitution : Two (2) years of post-secondary education from an accredited college with a major in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Information Systems or closely related field will substitute for the required experience.
Other : Some positions may require a current Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
