Position Description
Temporary part-time pool for instructor of American Government (Political Science).
Job Duties
1. Provide instruction in accordance with the Social Sciences Department’s established course outlines and the college catalog.
2. Teach in-person American Government classes.
3. Teach online American Government classes.
4. Teach other Political Science courses as needed.
5. Teach day and/or evening and/or Saturday classes at any of the College’s campuses as required.
6. Participate in curriculum development.
7. Utilize active learning techniques and culturally responsive teaching practices that engage historically marginalized students.
8. Participate in other faculty professional responsibilities and duties as appropriate, such as department and campus committee work as well as professional development activities.
9. Participate in professional activities, such as department and college committee work as well as staff development activities.
10. Perform professional duties including, but not limited to, testing, grading, maintaining grade-book, maintaining student attendance records, assessing and reporting student learning outcomes (SLO’s), etc.
11. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.
12. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.
13. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
City College of San Francisco Minimum Requirements
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
2. Earned Master’s Degree or higher (Ph.D.) in Political Science or Government from an accredited institution with demonstrable emphasis (major) in American Government or the equivalent; (Educational equivalency might include degrees in related fields, such as Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, Area Studies, etc., as long as there is equivalent coursework to MA in Political Science, with an emphasis in American Government.);
