Position Description
Instructor in CCSF’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies department, teaching in-person LGBT 50: LGBT Communities of Color in the U.S. and/or LGBT 9: The Latinx LGBTQ Experience, providing students an analysis of the intersections of sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, race, ethnicity, socio-economics, global location, religion, and ability; providing students an understanding of the interdisciplinary lenses of queer theory, trans theory, theories of race and ethnicity, feminist theory, and the study of comparative social justice and political movements; and knowledge of the ways that we currently understand and have historically understood various constructions of sexuality, gender identity, and behavior depending upon historical time and global location.

Job Duties

1. Teach in-person and online LGBT 50: LGBT Communities of Color in the U.S. and/or LGBT 9: The Latinx LGBTQ Experience.

2. Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress and learning outcomes, including but not limited to grading, record keeping, designing lesson plans and classroom activities, and developing course materials and activities to support student success and retention.

3. Utilize and refer to college and community learning resources.

4. Meet essential deadlines such as submitting Student Learning Outcomes, midterm and final grades, and census reports on time.

5. Engage in a collegial manner with the department.

6. Teach online and in-person day, evening, and/or Saturday classes at one or more sites as required.

7. Support and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practices, including those related to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

8. Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy.

9. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

10. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in LGBT /Queer Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and/or Ethnic Studies; OR THE EQUIVALENT ; OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in the appropriate area (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. Graduate-level completion of coursework in LGBT /Queer Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies; or an equivalent field.

2. Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation students, underrepresented students, students of color, and low-income students.

3. Successful experience teaching LGBT /Queer Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Ethnic Studies, and/or Latinx Studies at the community college level.

4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and areas of work.

5. Demonstrated commitment to intersectional and anti-oppression feminism and transformative justice.

6. Demonstrated ability to identify and teach the connections between theory and practice in the fields of LGBT /Queer Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Ethnic Studies, and/or Latinx Studies.

7. Successful experience developing and teaching online courses.

8. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.

9. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.

Special Instructions to Applicant

The first round of screening and interview will commence in Spring 2024 for those who have submitted completed application materials.
