The City Garden Montessori Aftercare Coordinator understands and promotes the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the school community. They are responsible for providing organized after-school enrichment activities program which aligns with both Montessori and anti-bias/antiracist (ABAR) philosophies.
At City Garden, we pride ourselves on giving students a vibrant learning experience in a welcoming environment. Our teachers count on our school support staff to build on a student-centered environment which fosters relationships and promotes continual growth.
Reporting to the School Principal, the Aftercare Coordinator plans and facilitates enriching after-school activities for students in grades 1 through 8. They also schedule and supervise a part-time staff of school employees and Saint Louis University Federal Work-Study community volunteers.

Responsibilities
- Plan, implement and coordinate activities for students in aftercare
- Keep accurate attendance records following check-in and check-out procedures
- Oversee the activities of part-time workers and volunteers in your location
- Assist in recruitment and scheduling of all Federal Work-Study workers, part-time staffers and other school personnel to provide after-school enrichment activities for students
- Be the senior employee on site for aftercare
- Safely supervise students indoors and outside, using good judgment in dealing with situations – behavioral, safety, instructional, etc.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about their student(s)
- Ensure that snacks are provided to students
- Keep track of all equipment and materials used in aftercare; ensure that all equipment and materials that are used are accounted for and put away in designated areas
- Communicate with school leadership about issues that may occur
- Ensure that the building is locked and secure upon your departure
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a minimum of an Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree highly preferred
- Have at least two years of experience designing and implementing enrichment activities for Elementary age students in a school or other supervised setting (YMCA, community center, day camp, etc.)
- Be flexible to adapt to the changing nature of the work
- Be resourceful and a good problem-solver
- Effective communication skills with adults and children
- Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Demonstrated success working with a diverse student population
- Deeply grounded in racial equity and have strong alignment with anti-bias, anti-racism values
Schedule
Monday through Friday when school, including Summer School, is in session.
Compensation
This part-time, non-exempt position pays $25.00 per hour.
