Title: Aquatics Coordinator
Department: Parks, Recreation & Community Services
REPORTS TO: Aquatics Supervisor
WAGE: $19.64 - $23.45/HR DOE
SCHEDULE: Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 8pm, subject to change
NATURE OF WORK:
The Aquatic Coordinator position will assist with the day-to-day supervision, implementation and evaluation of assigned aquatic programs and staff. This position must maintain order and safety in and around the pool facility. The Aquatics Coordinator will work closely with the Supervisor to maintain a clean, healthy water quality and a positive working environment. This position will maintain professionalism and member rapport while delivering the highest level of customer service. Works closely with patrons regarding concerns, problems, and any other significant issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversees on duty aquatics staff, to ensure constant surveillance of patrons in the water, and around the natatorium
- Monitor the pool facilities for potential hazards or unsafe conditions
- Develops daily, monthly, and seasonal pool schedules, lifeguard rotation schedules, and swim lesson instructor line up
- Assists with the recruitment, hiring, and training of Aquatics staff
- Oversee the Lifeguard Inspection Program and assist with the development and implementation of all staff trainings
- Assists and coordinates Parks & Recreation Department Safety Training Program
- Oversee the Water Aerobics Program and serves as standby instructor for swimming lessons and other aquatics programs
- Responds to issues regarding patron’s conduct and behavior
- Act as lead staff in emergency and rescue situation
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Manages accurate aquatic program registration, attendance reports, and class rosters
- Oversee and document routine water quality testing and reporting unhealthy chemical levels and/or temperature discrepancies
- Ensures the completion of all rescues, accident, and incident reports
- Inventory and maintain swimming pool and lifeguard equipment to ensure that they are in good working condition
- Ensure that all pool equipment is stored appropriately
- Recognize and report locker room and pool maintenance needs including cleaning, restocking, and minor repairs
- Maintain all American Red Cross certification updates as required and requested through personal American Red Cross accounts
- Assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass the Swim Test
- Experience teaching swimming lessons to youth and adults
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have a CPO or AFO certification or provide proof of enrollment
- Successfully complete a criminal history check
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to obtain prior to hiring:
o Lifeguarding Certification
o Lifeguard Instructor Certification
o Water Safety Instruction Certification
o CPR/ First-Aid Certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, or run. The employee uses hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach up with hands and arms. The employee is required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements are close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The Lifeguard will be required to climb in and out of the swimming pool as well as up and down ladders or lifeguard chairs. The position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. Must be in good physical and mental health and capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic areas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and or pool mechanical systems. Must be comfortable and confident while checking on the mechanical rooms of the natatorium. The employee is exposed to wet and dry conditions, swimming pool fumes, and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the facility. The employee may be exposed to stressful situations as a result of human behavior.
