Definition
This is routine work safeguarding school children in crossing City streets.
An employee in this class is responsible for protecting school children at dangerous traffic points on heavily traveled City streets by walking with groups of children across an intersection or by stopping traffic to allow children to cross the street.
Works independently with little or no supervision under general direction in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the job. Must be able to work at any location in the City of Akron and for short periods of time at the beginning and end of each school day.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
Ability to detect possible danger to children crossing streets. Ability to work in the open under adverse weather conditions. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to deal successfully with children, parents, Police, school personnel, and the general public. Ability to exercise mature judgment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. List of essential functions available upon request.

The candidates will be ranked in a standard manner based on information, records, and other data related to the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the position sought. Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in this announcement at the time of appointment.
RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades.
VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to their passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.
