Scope of Role
The Camp Counselor is responsible for direct supervision, facilitating daily programming for small and large groups of children, behavior management, and collaboration with other Camp Counselors during the Summer Camp Program.
Essential Duties
Enthusiastically, supervise, assist, encourage, build rapport, and actively engage groups of children between the ages of 6-12 to make camp a safe and fun place to be.
Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions to facilitate and assist with planned and/or spontaneous indoor and outdoor activities. Create points of engagement for the campers and provide safe and consistent opportunities for structured and unstructured play and activities.
Maintain a safe camp environment by: assisting with set-up and break-down of activities, cleaning of program area or program vehicles, knowing your chain of contacts (command), and other camp specifics.
Maintain safety standards by: adhering to APR camp standards, keeping kids engaged in activities, being in the pool as the first line of safety, clearly communicating positive and negative information with staff and guardians, etc.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
High School Diploma – course work or experience in after school programs, summer camp, recreation, child development, or any related course work
Prior experience working with school aged children
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
CPR/First Aid Certification (Preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds amount of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer terminal, utilize measuring devices, operate a motor vehicle, and inspect work of others.
