An Overview
The Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES) Public Works Services Division is seeking a Streets Superintendent to perform managerial work functions in a diversified public works environment. You will be leading and motivating the street cleaning department to ensure that city standards related to safety, customer service, productivity and compliance within the department are met daily.
The Opportunity

- Inspects and responds to customer service requests; Provides written responses to the Freedom of Information Act, City Manager Office, Department Head and Citizens on inquiries and other issues daily.
- Works with the community by responding to inquiries and overseeing or performing tasks as requested continuously and attends community meetings and Council meetings to discuss programs as needed.
- Oversight responsibility to street infrastructure maintenance projects (sidewalks and road maintenance, litter collection, street sweeping, etc.) and seasonal programs / events (fall leaf collection, mulch, snow removal, special events, etc.).
- Under the direction and guidance of the Division Chief - Hires, trains, reviews, and evaluates employees’ performance
- Conducts field observations ensuring productivity and safety compliance are properly maintained within the department
- Conduct investigations for all injuries and incidents – collaborates with other departments such as safety and human resources in retraining, performing root cause analyzes and reducing unsafe behaviors within the department
- Collaborates with Fleet Services ensuring vehicles are fully compliant within preventive maintenance schedules, reported repairs and seasonal inspections for special projects.
- Organizes and oversees responsibilities with emergency response, inclement weather-related (flooding, snow, etc.) and civil unrest (protests, safety initiatives) involvement and coordination.
- Manages inventory control of street cleaning department; Works with staff to keep accurate records of materials on hand, and to ensure the annual and ongoing acquisition of materials and disposal of materials takes place accordingly.
- Reviews / approves electronic timekeeping and employee time off. Ensuring attendance records are properly maintained according and performance is met according to City standards.
- Assists with the development and implementation of policies, coordinates with others within the City on as needed basis, and assists with contract development and management, purchase of equipment.
- Provides guidance to the Division Chief on the Capital Improvement Plan and assists with the development, revision, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Works under a required On-Call Status and perform any other related duties that are not listed but assigned.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
To qualify for this position, all candidates must possess Two years of college; two years of lead supervisor experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B license issued by state of residence.
Preferred Qualifications
To qualify as the ideal candidate, a candidate must possess considerable experience in the practice of street maintenance, a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal government and or public works department, and a valid Class B license is desired.
