GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of functions related to the supervision of the summer aquatics program at City of Allentown pools and spray parks.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and the Recreation Program Specialist.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May exercise supervision over all aquatics staff including cashiers(Pools), lifeguards, head lifeguards and pool managers alongside and in the absence of the Aquatics Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List here what you do in your job)
" Assists in managing and supervising assigned summer aquatics program operations to achieve goals and objectives within available resources.
" Assists in directing the staffing of the pools/spray parks and the enforcement of all applicable safety rules and regulations.
" Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
" Handles cash counting and deposits at aquatics facilities on a daily basis.
" Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
" Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range aquatics plans with the Aquatics Manager and Recreation Program Specialist.
" Gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations as directed by the Aquatics Manager and Recreation Program Specialist.
" Researches, plans and implements aquatic programs and coordinates staff in the implementation of the programs as directed by the Aquatics Manager and Recreation Program Specialist.
" Assists in reviewing existing aquatic programs and revises or changes programs as needed.
" Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs made by telephone, email, social media, and various types of correspondence or during public meetings.
" Promotes interest and provides information regarding aquatics programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments and the general public.
" Assists in coordinating the overall maintenance operation of City of Allentown pools/spray parks with Parks Maintenance Supervisor and Aquatics Manager.
" Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
" Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
" Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, collecting fees, making arrangements for use of pools, helping set up for classes, events, etc.
" Provides quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.
" Performs related work as may be required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A. High school diploma or equivalent, and
B. Have related experience and/or career in fields of study that may include Parks & Recreation, Education, Social Work, Counseling or another similar field
C. 4 years of experience in the management, operation and maintenance of an aquatic facility.
D. Equivalent combination of related education and experience.
E. Must have current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED/Lifeguarding certifications.
F. Current American Red Cross Water Safety/Lifeguard Instructor/Trainer certifications preferred
G. Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license with acceptable driving record for the last three years
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Knowledge of filtration systems, chemical injection systems and pool chemistry .
B. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Environmental Improvement Division(EID) regulations to assure compliance and public safety.
C. Knowledge of United States Swimming and Diving rules and regulations.
D. Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatic recreation program.
E. Ability to develop, coordinate and direct varied activities involved in a comprehensive aquatic recreation program.
F. Ability to develop, coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
G. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires intensive daily use of personal computer Water treatment systems, DE and high rate sand filter systems, flow meters and gauges, Ozone system, pool timing system, safety and rescue equipment, small hand tools for minor pool maintenance and plumbing repairs, water test kit, vacuum system, mobile or portable radio, automobile, general office supplies, general program supplies, cash register, various recreational management software, television and DVD player.
