GENERAL PURPOSE
To supervise recreation work in regards to the aquatics program for the City of Allentown.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the Assistant Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May exercise supervision over Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards and Cashiers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
" Review pool manual with staff prior to aquatics program work.
" Make responsible decisions on the composite aquatics operation.
" Identify problems and act responsibly to make appropriate decisions.
" Develop and maintain aquatic staff work schedules 2 weeks in advance that include a supervisor (manager or head lifeguard) present during all operating hours.
" Organize and conduct weekly staff meetings.
" Act as a liaison between Aquatics Manager and Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards and Cashiers (Pools).
" Act as a Lifeguard/ Cashier when necessary.
" Keep and maintain accurate facility records for all aspects of facility management such as payroll, time sheets, water quality logs, first aid logs, incident/accident reports, bottom check logs, facility safety checks, facility cleanliness, staff meeting notes, training logs, manifest reports, and supply and inventory logs.
" Be responsible for all keys, their safe handling, distribution and collection.
" Cooperate and assist with program operations.
" Request whatever additional authority is needed to efficiently run the program.
" Close the pool in the event of inclement weather or emergency.
" Complete daily revenue reports and count money at the pool, ensuring accuracy and proper handling.
" Handling of schedules for aquatics staff
" Report vandalism and needed repairs to the Aquatics Manager.
" Supervise pool maintenance and water quality tests during operating hours.
" Supervise all daily opening and closing procedures and assign task to staff as needed.
" Requisition all needed supplies and chemicals through the Aquatics Manager.
" Attendance at work is an essential function of this position
" Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.
" Performs related work as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A. High school diploma or equivalent.
B. Four seasons of lifeguard experience at a community or municipal pool.
C. 18 years of age or older, preferred.
D. Must have a valid driver's license.
E. Must have current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED/Lifeguarding certifications.
F. Possession of a current American Red Cross LGI/WSI certifications preferred
G. Possession of a current PA Dept. of Agriculture Category 24 Pesticide Applicator License preferred
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Knowledge of water rescue methods and techniques.
B. Knowledge of swimming strokes and aquatic techniques.
C. Knowledge of first aid and CPR principles and procedures.
D. Skill in swimming, lifeguarding, first aid and CPR.
E. Ability to pass swimming test and swim a minimum of 900 yards per week as required.
F. Ability to supervise the work of subordinate lifeguards and other pool personnel.
G. Ability to exercise tact and judgment in maintaining order and discipline, and in enforcing pool regulations.
H. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants and the public.
