JOB DESCRIPTION: As the Public Works Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital role in overseeing a wide range of municipal public works projects. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the maintenance of streets, city right of way, and municipal buildings, as well as alleyways, sewer repairs, minor to major construction projects, street signs, and other public works-related areas. You will work under the immediate supervision of the Division Crew Leader and Public Works Supervisor. Additionally, you will be responsible for performing the essential job functions efficiently and effectively. This role will require you to perform related work as required under the administrative direction of the Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Sweeping and clean up of debris and materials from roads.
- Operation of Township owned vehicles such as, pickup trucks, backhoe, street sweeper, dump truck, and tractor.
- Inspect and repair roads, curbs, and sidewalks.
- Plant, and/or prune trees, flowers, grass, hedges.
- Assist with light/ heavy manual labor to include lifting heavy objects using proper procedures.
- Able to work morning, afternoon, and nights when necessary.
- Assist with abatements of trash and brush.
- Maintains parks and recreational facilities in good clean working order, such as picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, and moping, sweeping and other related tasks.
- Assists with the spraying of round up weed killer when necessary.
- Assist with sanitary sewer line maintenance and replacement.
- Assists with storm drains inlet maintenance and repairs.
- Maintenance of public right of way.
- Assists with the opening and closing of parks and recreational facilities
- Assists in evaluating, reporting, and repairing damaged streets and other public traffic areas.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director and or Public Works Assistant Director.
EQUIPMENT:
Ability to use backhoe, dump truck, sweeper, tractor, shredder, weed eater, picks, shovels, pruners, chain saw, and all other equipment necessary for the daily activities of the Public Works Department.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Applicants must be available to work 40 or more hours per week, and must be capable of working in all weather conditions. In addition, applicants should be able to meet the mandatory on-call schedule for a one week rotation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standard eight (8) hour workday applies, must be willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary in order to meet deadlines and oversee program events.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel and hop
- Ability to manage stress.
- Must be in good physical health.
JOB STANDARDS:
- Minimum completion of grade school is required.
- Reading, writing, and oral communication in English/Spanish are required.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Two (2) years of experience or equivalent formal training in field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
- General knowledge of maintenance equipment, its care, and function, such as backhoe, tractor, shedder, weed eater, trimmer, chain saw, etc.
- Previous experience in general maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge in Safety Precautions such as flagging, trenching and excavation, high traffic safety, utility locates, heat stress prevention, slips trips and falls, and operational hazards.
