SUMMARY
Under direction from the Community Improvements Manager, this position performs a variety of inspections of building and properties to ensure compliance with City of Amarillo Municipal Code, nuisance complaints, substandard structures, weeds and uncultivated growth, junk and debris, junk vehicles, building code requirements, No supervision of others.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs inspections on residential and commercial buildings, mobile homes and signs, investigating complaints to ensure compliance to the City of Amarillo's Municipal Code.
- Performs graffiti, junk, and debris inspections.
- Performs inspections and duties relating to the Junk Vehicle program.
- Performs field inspections for compliance with City Ordinances as needed.
- Inspects substandard structures and properties, preparing comprehensive reports and providing documentation and notification to property owners.
- Conducts re-inspections to verify compliance with codes, laws, and regulations.
- Prepares reports for presentation to Condemnation Appeals Commission for condemnation procedures.
- Provides information to the public regarding the requirements and policies of the City.
- Coordinate with other agencies and contractors, monitoring condemnation and demolition process.
- Provides documentation of inspections, research property and inspection history utilizing necessary software and equipment.
- Collaborates with the other inspectors, departments, agencies as required to ensure compliance with codes.
- Investigates, interprets, and issues zoning violation notices as necessary.
- May be required to prepare cases and testify in Municipal Court.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year experience with high public contact Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Must obtain the ICC Property Maintenance Code the ICC Code Enforcement Officer Certification, within twelve months of employment. Valid Texas Driver's License required or obtained within 30 days.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee works in a dynamic environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Schedule consists of 10-hour shifts, four on / three off per week. Optional overtime assignments are available throughout the year.
