Job Description
Starting Pay: $15.00 per hour
SUMMARY
Under supervision and in accordance with procedures, this position conducts background investigations on police/civilian applicants seeking employment with the City of Amarillo to determine the applicant’s eligibility and/or suitability for hire.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Under the supervision and guidance of sworn T&P personnel:
- Review applicant’s Personal History Statement and other related documentation
- Interview applicant and all other persons in applicant’s background
- Request background information from outside agencies
- Document all findings in a professionally written report
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Retired Texas peace officer in good standing.
- Experience in Human Resources, background or criminal investigations.
- Ability to write clear and detailed reports using proper English grammar.
- Experience or training in interviewing/interrogations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skill.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background Investigator School
- Interviewing/Interrogation school
- Two years' experience in an investigative unit
- EEOC training
- Proficiency with MS Word
- Job- related college courses
