What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIS/Medicaid Navigator position at City of Amarillo?
STARTING PAY: $18.39/HR
SUMMARY
Under general supervision from the Women’s Health Program Manager, this position is responsible for assisting pregnant women applying for Medicaid to decrease barriers in obtaining prenatal care.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting pregnant women in obtaining health coverage during their pregnancy.
- Linking pregnant women to medical care.
- Collaborate with other professionals to assess client needs.
- Documents in the electronic medical record and maintains accurate and up-to-date client files, records, and documentation.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of client files and records.
- Meets with clients as necessary via telephone check-in calls and in-person office and home visits; provides education and conducts relevant, assessments, planning, etc.
- Assists program leadership with ensuring compliance with applicable laws and guidelines.
- Assists newly insured individuals in learning about services, and how to utilize services.
- Make necessary referrals to ensure continuity of care.
- Participates in public health preparedness responses.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 12 months of experience in case management specifically with Medicaid. Valid Texas Driver’s License, and reliable transportation with proof of current vehicle insurance, required. Bilingual preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy Act.
- Working knowledge of Medicaid and Marketplace.
- Strong case management skills.
- Skills to use a computer with Microsoft Office for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes.
- Skills in operating small office equipment, including a multi-function copy machine, fax machine and multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to travel out of town for training and seminars.
- Ability to work an after-hours schedule as required.
- Ability to drive to off-site locations including patient homes and meetings within Potter and Randall counties.
- Ability to quickly change focus and priorities to address competing priorities, as necessary.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work 8-6 M-Th.
