SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for operating street sweeping equipment, and on occasion operates other trucks/equipment as required. This position is responsible for the maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment and may on occasion be required to perform manual unskilled labor. This position is required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sweeps curbed residential or other assigned streets and haul accumulated debris to designated disposal sites.
- Performs routine checks and maintenance on equipment per manufacturers recommendation.
- Ensure equipment and air filters are clean at the end of each shift.
- Turns equipment into Fleet Services for repairs, as needed.
- Changes pick-up broom, gutter broom, dirt reflector, dirt shoe, etc., on sweepers.
- Build gutter brooms and pick-up brooms when necessary.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains safe working environment through the application of standard barricading and traffic safety procedures.
- Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed.
- Maintains an inventory of all tools.
- Operates other equipment or trucks as needed during emergencies, trains on unfamiliar equipment or operates within comparable pay range when necessary.
- Orders supplies from warehouse or outside suppliers as necessary.
- Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices.
- Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school or GED required. Minimum of one (1) year experience operating sweeper preferred. Valid Texas Driver’s License required. Must be able to obtain a Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License when scheduled to attend CDL training course during probationary year. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have good working knowledge of street sweepers.
- Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
- Ability to operate medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial vehicles.
- Must have working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.
- Must have working knowledge of all hand tools, both manual and power driven.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and citizens.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee works in an outdoor environment in all types of weather conditions, with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to self, co-workers, or others. Employee may be subject to dusty conditions and will be required to drive extensively in City traffic.
