What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sweeper Operator position at City of Clovis, NM?
Position is responsible for street cleaning and maintenance and repairs of public thoroughfare and related improvements. Frequent overtime evening hours, week-ends and holidays, plus stand-by on a rotation basis.
This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
- Operates street sweeper, and maintain records of maintenance and operations.
- Cleans, services and makes minor adjustments according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Do minor repairs to equipment, such as replacing gutter brooms, curtains on pick-up head, belt adjustments on blower fan, gutter broom, using check list in operator’s manual.
- Assist in other areas as pavement, alley repairs, chip sealing, operating dump trucks, rollers or traffic control.
- Assist with snow and ice control operating salt, sand trucks or trucks with mounted plows.
- Assist with the clean-up of areas of responsibility in Service Center Complex.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years' experience in operation and maintenance of light equipment with a workable knowledge of street sweepers. Experience in street maintenance and repairs.
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements, or be able to obtain within 3 months.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Safe operating procedures of equipment, and daily maintenance.
Skills in:
- Safe operation of heavy equipment such as graders, loaders, dozers, packers, compactors, water wagon, computer, and printer.
Ability to:
- perform functions with minimal supervision; understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations; interact diplomatically with public, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others.
Physical Requirements
- Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required
