Recreation Preschool Camp Director, City of Amesbury Summer Day Program
Responsible to: Recreation Director and Assistant Recreation Director
Summary of job description: The Camp Director must be a highly motivated, passionate, energetic, creative individual who cares deeply about children. Responsibilities include supervision of all staff, effective communication with parents and ensuring the safety of all children. The director will plan and coordinate all activities to make ensure a successful “camp experience”. Director will plan and implement staff and CIT training during staff orientation week.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
- Ability to effectively plan, teach, follow-up and evaluate the work of camp staff
- Ability to effectively lead and supervise large groups of children in camp activities
- Ability to effectively evaluate emergencies and unexpected situations and promptly respond in an appropriate manner
- Ability to apply appropriate behavior management techniques while teaching staff and build relationships with parents to best serve the youth.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, counselors in training, children (individually and in large groups) their family members, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum age 21 years
- High school graduation or the equivalent, preferably a BA
- Minimum 6 months (2 summer seasons) of experience leading and supervising groups of children in a recreational or school setting
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or able to become certified before camp session begins (current certifications must be maintained throughout employment)
JOB INFORMATION:
Seasonal position; non-benefited; 35-40 hours per week; Monday-Friday; Hours 7:45 am – 3:30 pm (may flex with extended day program); June 23 - August 15, 2025, this position will plan and implement camp activities for up to 25 campers, ages 3-5. Pay is $21-$25/hr
