What are the responsibilities and job description for the CKNC Summer Outdoor Counselor position at City of Amesbury?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as examples of the various type of work that may be performed. General Responsibilities:
· Plan and implement appropriate outdoor/nature related activities for appropriate grade levels: grades 1-3 and 5- 8.
· Lead small groups of youth in hands-on nature activities, cooperative games and low elements, kayaking, archery, climbing wall and other outdoor activities for 6 one-week sessions held at a lakeside nature center.
· Actively participate in meetings/planning sessions with other program staff including a 3-day staff orientation training program.
· Help set up and maintain equipment used in programming.
· Always be responsible for the safety of children.
Qualifications: Minimum age of 18 years.
- Previous experience working with children in a school, camp or similar setting.
- Should be creative, energetic, positive, willing to learn and have a love for nature and the outdoors.
- Ability to work cooperatively and independently and eager to assist with curriculum.
- Training in a science-related field or education preferred as well as teaching in an outdoor learning environment. Must be comfortable on the water.
- Ability to set and communicate clear boundaries for youth in a positive way.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR or willing to get certified at no cost.
- Basic wilderness skills preferred.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
