The City of Amesbury (estimated population 18,000), a dynamic Merrimack Valley community rich in tradition with a vibrant and expanding economic base, is seeking a strong candidate to serve as the City’s Beach Director. The City’s Beach Director oversees day-to-day operations, enforces beach rules and communications for Lake Gardner Beach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as examples of the various type of work that may be performed. · Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
· Maintains surveillance of patrons in the facility, acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
· Sets up beach prior to opening for the season and clean up and store everything at the close of season. Daily set up of games is required.
· Performs various maintenance duties as needed/directed to maintain a clean and safe facility and equipment.
· Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
· Act as main point of contact with departments such as public health, police, public works, recreation, and other stakeholders; communicate any issues.
· Calculates and submits payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
· Prepares summer report the last week of the season to the Recreation Department and Mayor and make recommendations for the future.
· Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must be 18 years of older.
· Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
· One year of experience working with the public or in customer service.
· Must be able to pass a CORI check.
· High school graduate or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Must always act and look professional.
· Must have ability to communicate effectively and professionally to the public regarding rules and procedures.
· Knowledge of some first aid and emergency medical procedures.
· Must have a friendly demeanor, able to act calmly, handle conflict, and resolve issues in a peaceful and timely manner.

The work environment is outdoors at Lake Gardner Beach in Amesbury. Applicants must be able to dress appropriately for any type of weather. Must be able to stand for several hours at a time. Must be able to handle varying levels of noise and activities. Standing, walking, bending, crouching, seeing, hearing, talking, carrying, climbing, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. is required.
