The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for full-time Firefighter EMT or Paramedic.

Written and physical ability evaluations are required for all positions. Information packets will be emailed to qualified applicants explaining the written and physical ability evaluation process and applicable dates for completing each process.
Successful completion of post-offer criminal background screening, drug test, psychological and medical physical required. Excellent wage and benefit package. Work schedule is a 24 hour on/48 hour off rotation averaging 2912 hours per year after attending the required Fire and EMS Academy, and Paramedic Training, if applicable.
Effective 07/01/2024, starting salary pay is: EMT $61,857, Paramedic $69,500 - $80,452 depending on years of experience.

Responds to emergencies and performs pre-hospital care, fire suppression activities, rescue, damage control, and property preservation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to write in English with a minimum number of spelling and grammatical errors.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and function as a team member.
- Shall be enrolled and attending an Emergency Medical Technician course or be certified as an EMT or Paramedic at the time of application.
REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall possess a current State of Iowa Emergency Medical Services certification at time of hire.
- Paramedic certification must be obtained with the agreed upon timeframe after hire date.
- Shall obtain IFSAC Fire Fighter I, II and Hazardous Material Operations, ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 Level certifications throughout employment.
- Shall possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of Iowa and be insurable to operate city vehicles and equipment.
- Must be able to pass a physical ability test.
- Must be able to pass the physical exam per the requirements of the Iowa Municipal Fire and Police and Retirement System for FT personnel.
DISQUALIFYING FACTORS:
The following actions will disqualify you from the applications process.- Conviction (including deferred charge) for OWI/DUI in the last five (5) years.
- Misdemeanor drug offenses within the past five (5) years.
- Any forgery, alteration or intentional misrepresentation of facts on application or during the hiring process.
- Other than honorable discharge from the military.
- Missing scheduled appointments during the hiring process without permission.
- Unfavorable recommendations for hire by references, employers, landlords, or professional consultant engaged by the Ankeny Fire Department.
- Any disciplinary action as deemed by Iowa Department of Public Health-Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services.

- Iowa or National EMT or Paramedic Certification card
- Fire Fighter I, II, Hazmat Operations, ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications if you have them
