The City of Apple Valley, Minnesota is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern for the summer of 2025. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Communications Specialist to develop engaging marketing and communication materials, maintain and enhance the City’s social media channels, and contribute to website updates and content creation. This full-time internship spans 12 consecutive weeks (40 hours per week), with flexible start and end dates, offering valuable hands-on experience in municipal communications and community outreach.

- Create engaging digital and print communication materials for internal and external use.
- Maintain and update the City’s social media platforms by brainstorming ideas to increase engagement, drafting posts, and monitoring performance metrics.
- Develop website content to keep residents informed about City news, events, and resources.
- Support the planning, promotion, and execution of communications and engagement efforts.
- Conduct basic research, gather information, and compile materials for public distribution.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a 4-year degree program in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong grammar, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging content.
- Familiarity with social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
- Basic understanding of web content and the ability to update and maintain website content.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with a willingness to learn and collaborate in a team environment.
- Physical ability to carry at least 25 lbs. of equipment.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to travel independently to different locations in Apple Valley as needed.
