What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Water Safety Instructor position at City of Apple Valley?
Provide instruction for the outdoor pool Learn-To-Swim Program. This is an outdoor position which requires adapting to a variety of conditions.
- Provide an outstanding learning experience in swimming and water safety skills for all skill levels.
- Supervise water safety aids in the instruction of students.
- Provide pleasant and approachable customer service.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
- 15 years of age or older.
- Water Safety Instructor Authorization from the American Red Cross.
- Lifeguard Training Certification from the American Red Cross (If the candidate wishes to work as a Lifeguard).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be kind, energetic and outgoing.
- Ability to interact with all ages.
- Day, evening and weekend work will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching swimming in a variety of settings.
- Experience in adapting swimming instruction to a variety of disabilities.
- Experience in the supervision of teaching assistants.
Day, evening and weekend work will be required. Pool is open 7 days a week (Splash Valley, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.). Splash Valley opens June 6, 2025 - August 20, 2025.
Employment offer will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal/driving history check.
