What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Activity Coordinator I: Youth Sports Leagues & Camps position at City of Appleton?
We are in search of Activity Coordinator for Summer sports camps. The Activity Coordinator will act as primary representative of the department on site during youth sports camps and will have supervisory responsibility over staff and participants. The qualified individual should have a strong working knowledge of a variety of sports, be passionate about creating a positive environment for learning, and have the capability of serving as an instructor while coordinating the program.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with both children and adults. Strong knowledge of tennis. Has the ability to interpret the rules and make decisions that help promote and uphold the program vision.
- Preseason: Assist with the organization of class rosters and schedules, assist in the recruitment and training of sports camp instructors.
- Coordinate coach equipment handout and tracking
- Coordinate staff scheduling, training and performance evaluations.
- Provide ongoing training and expertise to volunteer coaches as needed.
- Act as the primary APRD program representative / liaison during camp activities, providing a high level of personal visibility and customer service.
- Communicate professionally with program participants; respond to inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.
- Instruct children in baseball, soccer, football, basketball and other sports through demonstrations, drills, games, and scrimmages in an enthusiastic and energetic manner
- Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment.
- Check field / site conditions; coordinate with program supervisor to make decisions about rain outs / cancelations.
- Manage and track supplies and equipment.
- Data entry of payroll and standings, complete all necessary paperwork.
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Communicate with Program Supervisor clearly, effectively and regularly.
- Work closely with the Parks & Recreation Dept. staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed.

- Ability to work the duration of the program as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
- Ability to provide strong leadership and establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, and the public.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid (training provided if needed).
- Ability to effectively supervise and train staff.
- Ability to effectively carry out oral and written instructions, meet time lines.
- Ability to operate computer and software used by the Department.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code.
- Adhere to and implement the City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Hold valid driver's license and have a safe driving record.
Employment Season: April/May - August, Start date TBD
Work Location: Parks & Recreation office, Memorial Park, Erb Park, Pierce Park, Appleton North, or other City Tennis Courts
Salary : $18 - $20
