What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Tennis Instructor position at City of Appleton?
The tennis instructors will lead our youth tennis camps, and Little Hitters tennis programs. Sports camp instructors should have a basic working knowledge of the fundamental skills of tennis and are extremely confident and skilled at translating and delivering those skills to a young audience (ages 4-12). Successful instructors will have the ability to engage and gain trust with young children, and progressively help participants develop confidence and enthusiasm for the sport of tennis.

Typical work schedule for a Tennis Instructor is Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. with some evening hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for Adult Instruction. Additional hours are also available on Fridays for our match play program.
Location of work: Erb Park, Pierce Park, Appleton North, or other City Tennis Courts
The tennis instructor will lead instructional classes for both local youth and adults, in a variety of skill levels, from beginner through advanced. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of tennis, be able to develop daily lesson plans, and be able to communicate confidently and in an encouraging manner.
- Instructs beginner through advanced level tennis to youth and adults
- Demonstrates tennis skills and techniques
- Supervises participants and maintains a safe learning environment
- Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
- Signs own name on the results/pay sheet for hours worked
- Works closely with the Parks & Recreation Department staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Strong tennis background, teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of the principles and skills of the game of tennis
- Ability to effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to effectively supervise and maintain control of participants
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Adhere to City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures

Salary : $15 - $18
