Job Overview
Patrol Officers are the primary frontline representatives of the Arcade Police Department, responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and serving the community through proactive and responsive policing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Crime Prevention
o Conduct preventive patrol throughout the Arcade jurisdiction
o Maintain high visibility to deter criminal activity
o Proactively identify and address potential safety risks in the community
2. Emergency Response
o Respond promptly to all requests for law enforcement assistance
o Conduct preliminary on-scene investigations with thoroughness and professionalism
o Assess and manage critical incidents efficiently and safely
3. Traffic Safety
o Enforce traffic laws to reduce congestion and prevent hazardous conditions
o Investigate motor vehicle collisions
o Conduct traffic stops and issue appropriate citations or warnings
4. Community Support
o Provide direct crisis intervention for citizens experiencing legal, medical, or social challenges
o Offer referrals to appropriate social services
o Maintain positive and supportive interactions with community members
5. Law Enforcement
o Apprehend offenders in compliance with legal procedures
o Collect and preserve evidence
o Assist prosecutors in building cases against law violators
o Prepare comprehensive and accurate reports of all incidents and interventions
6. Interdepartmental Collaboration
o Assist other divisions within the Arcade Police Department
o Cooperate with external law enforcement agencies within and outside the department's jurisdiction
o Participate in inter-agency operations and task forces as required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid state driver's license
- Successful completion of police academy training (P.O.S.T. Certification)
- Physical fitness meeting departmental standards
- Clean criminal background
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and make critical decisions under pressure
- Must be able to pass a Polygraph/Voice Stress Analysis
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Physically capable of running, climbing, lifting, and restraining individuals
