The City of Arlington is offering full time seasonal work with our Maintenance and Operations Team. There are short- and long-term positions, so please review the timelines below. General schedule and duties: Mon. – Fri. 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Sat. or Sun. 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.Work week varies. Hours may vary.Focus on general landscape maintenance, weeding, mowing, cutting brush, planting, some building maintenance, general site and litter cleanup, pressure washing sidewalks, pathways, other hard surface areas, and buildings, (7) positions for employment 6 months from start date*, March 3th, or April 1st, 2025: - This position due to its length of service is eligible for State of Washington Retirement benefits.(3) positions for employment 3 months from start date*, June 16th 2025:This position due to its length of service is NOT eligible for State of Washington Retirement benefits. Performed in any of the City departments, often on a part-time, seasonal or temporary basis. Individuals assigned to this classification are expected to have the mechanical and manipulative skills and abilities necessary to perform the general manual labor required in the departments. Individuals usually work with more experienced employees but will be expected to work independently to perform relatively routine and well-known tasks; or more difficult work following specific instruction and directions.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Work activities may include any or all of the following, depending on area of assignment: Perform activities to assist employees of higher classification in construction, installation, repair or maintenance work in any City department.Mow grass, clean/weed flower beds, trim shrubs and brush, operate power mowers and line trimmers and utilize appropriate hand tools. Pick up and remove debris from public property as directed, operating pickup trucks or other vehicles as specifically authorized.Clear dirt and other debris from in and around storm sewers, catch basins, ditches, buildings, runway aprons and related City facilities using appropriate hand tools.As directed, control traffic at work sites by setting up warning signs, traffic/pedestrian barricades and, if certified, flagging traffic manually. Respond to questions and provide information within scope of knowledge or refer to employee of higher classification.Clean and maintain public restrooms using appropriate cleansers, disinfectants and mops, rags and appropriate hand tools. Replenish supplies such as soap and paper towels.Work is performed utilizing a variety of power tools and equipment such as gas/electric line trimmers, gas lawn mowers and edgers, blowers, chain saws, pressure washers, pickup trucks/vans, and hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes and picks.Must be able to work various work schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to perform work in accordance with sound safety practices.Ability to establish effective relationships with City staff, other organizations and the general public and be able to deal with the public in a pleasant and responsive manner conducive to positive public relations.Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform manual labor for extended periods under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather conditions.Requires continuous physical effort including frequent bending, walking, kneeling, and continuous manipulation and lifting of hand tools and equipment.Requires hearing and visual acuity and manual dexterity
