This position focuses on support for the City cemetery program through the Public Works Department. General schedule and duties: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm. Saturday 7:00am to 3:30pm when necessaryFocus on general landscape maintenance, weeding, mowing, cutting brush, planting, some building maintenance, general site and litter cleanup, pressure washing sidewalks, pathways and other hard surface areas, and buildings, and assisting with cemetery burial services. This is a six-month position, starting April 1, 2025, and is eligible for State of Washington Retirement Benefits.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform activities to assist employees of higher classification in primarily repair or maintenance work at the cemetery or Public Works. Mow grass, clean/weed flower beds, trim bushes and brush, operate power mowers and line trimmers and utilize appropriate hand tools. Pick up and remove debris from cemetery property as directed, empty trash and receptacles, operating pickup trucks or other vehicles as specifically authorized. As directed, assist with burials at the cemetery.Must be able to work various schedules including weekends. Ability to perform work in accordance with sound safety practices.Ability to establish effective relationships with City staff, other organizations and the general public and be able to deal with the public in a pleasant and responsive manner conducive to positive public relations. Physical strength and the ability sufficient to perform manual labor for extended periods of time under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather conditions. Requires continual physical effort including frequent bending, walking, kneeling and continuous manipulation and lifting of hand tools and equipment. Requires hearing and visual acuity and manual dexterity.
