Head Lifeguard
The City of Athens is seeking individuals who enjoy working outdoors to join our pool staff. This is a seasonal position expected to last about 120 days and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The starting pay rate is $13.00/hr. You do not need to be certified to apply and the City of Athens will cover the costs of necessary certifications. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Job Summary:
Oversee the daily operation of the swimming pool area, including staff, to assume a supervised and safe environment. Head Lifeguards will also perform the duties of lifeguard and teach swim lessons. This is a temporary, seasonal position in the Arts, Parks and Recreation Department.
Job Duties:
- Handles last minute call offs/no shows.
- Supervises Lifeguards and ensures rotations and breaks are being followed.
- Conduct training programs, staff meetings, and evaluations.
- Make daily decisions such and handle patron complaints.
- Keep appropriate records concerning maintenance, pool chemistry, daily logs, first-aid/incident reports, etc.
- Responsible for checking water chemistry and regular checks of pump room operations.
- Responsible for some troubleshooting of equipment failure/malfunction.
- Opening and closing facility to include changing and cleaning filter baskets and vacuuming pools.
- Inspect all areas of the pool for sanitation and safe equipment.
- Assist with inventory and communicates needs to Lead Lifeguard.
- Report any problems or incidents to Lead Lifeguard and/or Program Specialist.
- Performs duties of Lifeguards.
- Instructs swim lessons.
Job specifications and qualifications:
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a current American Red Cross lifeguarding certification*, current Red Cross or American Heart Association First-Aid/CPR certification, and demonstrate satisfactory aquatic safety skills during a water test.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Candidates must have reasonable weekend availability.
- Desire previous pool management experience; instructors certification in CPR, First-Aid and Lifeguarding.
The City may consider any other equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
