Lifeguard
The City of Athens is seeking individuals who enjoy working outdoors to join our pool staff. This is a seasonal position expected to last about 120 days and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The starting pay rate is $12.00/hr. You do not need to be certified to apply and the City of Athens will cover the costs of necessary certifications. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Job Summary:
To ensure and maintain swimmer safety by monitoring guest behavior, pool conditions, and enforcing safety rules. Lifeguards must also participate in swim lesson instruction. This is a temporary, seasonal position in the Arts, Parks, and Recreation Department.
Job Duties:
- Maintain current certification of American Red Cross Lifeguard*, CPR/First-Aid/ AED.
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Presents professional appearance and a good attitude.
- Responsible for teaching swim lessons.
- Be available to work nightly pool parties during the season.
- Preforms various cleaning duties during opening and closing of each day.
- Assists in opening the pool for the season.
- Attends all Lifeguard Inservice Trainings, Swim Lesson Training, and Staff Meetings.
- Provide assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary.
- Work cooperatively with other coworkers and supervisory staff.
- Exceeds Visual Awareness Trainings conducted by supervisory staff.
- Perform any other related duties enacted by supervisory staff.
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
- Candidates must be at least 15 years of age.
- Lifeguards must be strong swimmers, possess excellent observation skills, and exhibit strong emergency response skills.
- Candidates must have reasonable weekend availability.
The City may consider any other equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
