Job Summary:
Supports the development of strategic plans and program documents such as plans, policies, and procedures for emergency or disaster preparedness for the department. May act as project team lead for development of products; functions as a group facilitator for meetings and exercises, as required.
Duties:
Duties include the performance of skilled technical and administrative work, supervising and directing emergency or disaster preparedness planning. Creating and maintaining the department’s emergency management plans, such as emergency response plans, site specific emergency action plans, business continuity plans, hazard mitigation plans, and drought plans.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
The Emergency Management Planner receives general supervision from the Emergency Management Program Managers. Project and technical direction may be provided to professional, technical, office support and contract staff.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Research reviews, writes and maintains emergency plans and standard operation procedures for department operations during emergency or disaster events.
- Assists with coordinating daily operations of the department.
- Maintains readiness of the Emergency Operations Center for response to emergencies or disaster events.
- Responds to and directs emergency management calls related to hazardous material and chemical spills.
- Maintains department’s crisis information management software and databases.
- Participates in local, state, and regional disaster preparedness exercises to enhance capabilities within the department operations.
- Facilitate presentations on disaster preparedness for the department workforce and other city agencies.
- Assists with training the department’s workforce to be better prepared for emergency or disaster events.
- Assists with analyzing weather forecasts to notify the department’s workforce of weather hazards affecting the department’s business operations.
- Operates all systems and equipment assigned to the division as needed for emergency management operations.
