JOB DESCRIPTION

Hourly Pay Range : $24.66-$29.61

General Description and Classification Standards

Under general direction of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) Airport Operations Center (AOC) Manager, and the Telecommunications Supervisors, this position is responsible for operating AOC telecommunications equipment to receive, process and disseminate information through the emergency communications systems, airfield communications systems, EOC systems, and the airport security systems. The Emergency Management division within the Department of Aviation includes several collocated integrated operations : an emergency 9-1-1 Non-traditional Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) function (servicing Police, Fire and EMS), servicing Security, Operations and Maintenance, and an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) function.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Operates related technology and responds to radio, telephone, email, alarm, CCTV, and other data transmitted into the AOC facility. Provides for the triage of incoming data to prioritize the handling of emergency incidents. Provides quality customer service on all interactions with the public and AOC supported operations.

Processes 911 and non-emergency calls for service and provides notifications as needed to the affected airport personnel. Monitors video surveillance systems and relays observations to responders upon request. Monitors access control systems, duress alarms and coordinates security and law enforcement responses. Operates the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track, record and prioritize incidents and incident responses. Provides on-going communications and coordination support to both emergency and non-emergency operations in the field as required.

Acts decisively when incident conditions change and / or airport staff or facilities are endangered. Coordinates communications with off airport responders to airport incidents. Conducts detailed and comprehensive briefings to relief Telecommunicators before leaving their workstation(s). Other related duties as assigned by the Telecommunications Supervisors, AOC Manager, and / or Emergency Management Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to use established operating procedures to determine severity of emergency events and appropriate course of action. Ability to work under stressful conditions, analyze and manage situations and make decisions rapidly.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to respond to emergency call situations at any time. Ability to report to work in inclement weather. Ability to use keyboard devices, computers, and communications equipment and be able to sit for extended periods.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and problems and make timely notifications. Knowledge of personal computers and commonly used software such as Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Office, Outlook and other mapping, database and I.P. systems

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Obtain a Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) certification within 6 months of employment

Preferred Education & Experience

At least 1 year of experience as a 911 communications dispatcher preferred
