Fleet Operations Manager
The City of Auburn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fleet Operations Manager. This position is responsible for the overall management and direction of the maintenance garage including 8 employees (6 mechanics, 1 welder and 1 inventory technician), 100 pieces of rolling stock and specialty equipment. The maintenance garage also performs preventive maintenance and repairs to emergency vehicles including Police and Fire apparatus.
Preferred candidates will have demonstrated organizational skills, effective communications and supervisory skills, experience in equipment management, thorough knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems, inventory control, preventative maintenance systems and practices, assessment of reliability of vehicles, and motor vehicle safety. Knowledge of work order systems and inventory control for purposes of compiling data on operational costs and performance is preferred. Candidates should possess a degree or a combination of experience and education in an area related to this field. The preferred candidate should possess fleet management experience, thorough knowledge of equipment maintenance, a working knowledge of budget and personnel management, and a commitment to public service and customer satisfaction.
A Maine Driver’s License Class C, and Maine Class A and D automotive Inspection licenses required, or candidate must be able to obtain required licenses and certifications within the first six months’ probation.
