DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the professional planning staff on less complex building construction plans, Prepares detailed plan correction reports, confer and coordinate plan review process and code requirements with architects, engineers, contractors, and owner / builders. Receives general administrative direction from the Building Official and Plans Examiners.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives mentoring in the field as it relates to conducting on-site inspections on residential, commercial, industrial, and multi-family to ensure compliance with the adopted codes and ordinance. Notifies contractors, engineers, architects, architects, subcontractors, and property owners of code violations.
Reviews and evaluates minor building construction plans and specifications, including but not limited to residential, commercial, industrial, and multi-family for compliance with the adopted codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.
Checks to ensure that contractors are licensed, proper permits have been obtained, and inspections performed.
Reviews signage applications and plans for conformance to adopted codes and ordinances.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education : High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience : One (1) year of experience in examining building construction plans for code compliance.
Preferred (in addition to the minimum requirements) :
Construction experience as a residential or general contractor.
Completion of college courses in building trades, construction trades, engineering, construction technology, or related field.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze plans and complex regulations.
Ability to be self- starter, who pays attention to details, can multi-task effectively, and is able to work independently and effectively.
