DESCRIPTION
Under direction of the Building Official, examines plans, and specifications for multi-family commercial, and industrial buildings or structures for compliance with applicable City and State codes and standards. Prepares detailed plan correction reports, confer and coordinate plan review process and code requirements with architects, engineers, contractors, and owner / builders. Receives general administrative direction from Building Official and Senior Plan Examiners.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Reviews plans, designs, calculations, and specifications for residential, commercial, and industrial structures for compliance with applicable adopted codes and standards, accepted engineering practices, and structural integrity. Notifies contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners of plan deficiencies and alternate solutions.
Maintains a plan routing and filing system.
Performs field inspection and consultation as required to assist Building Inspectors, contractors, or applicants with construction questions or issues.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Ability to interpret technical codes, ordinances and standards.
Operated modern office equipment and computers including specialized computer applications
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Licensing :
Must possess a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
Hiring grade is based on experience and certifications as outlined below. All applicants will be considered for grade 19. A higher entry level salary grade could be warranted depending on years of experience and ICC certifications.
Plans Examiner I
This is a mid-level Plans Examiner position.
Education : High school diploma or G.E.D
Experience : Three (3) years of experience in building code compliance, reading / examining building plans, or construction technology.
Certification : Must obtain an ICC commercial Plans Examiner certification within 9 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications)
Five (5) years of experience in building code compliance, reading / examining building plans, or construction technology.
Two (2) years' experience working in an inspection department setting.
Plans Examiner II
This is a Senior Plans Examiner position.
Education : Associate's Degree or equivalent
Experience : Seven (7) years of experience in building code compliance, reading / examining building plans, or construction technology.
Certification : Four (4) ICC Certifications from the Commercial Codes with two (2) of the certifications being in commercial plans examination.
Preferred Qualifications)
Seven (7) years of experience in building code compliance, reading / examining building plans, or construction technology.
Five (5) years' experience working in an inspection department setting.
