DESCRIPTION
This is an entry-level position in its classification. Responsible for operating specialty and heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. Handling the least complex work activities using heavy equipment which may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers, and specialty equipment used for paving and surfacing asphalt driveways, such as a walk behind concrete saw, single drum rollers, and other pieces of equipment as assigned. Responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and securing all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the operation of specialty equipment used for paving and surfacing asphalt driveways, walk behind concrete saw, single drum rollers, and other pieces of equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
- Assists in the operation of heavy equipment on public roadways to perform construction/maintenance of road system, drainage system, as well as sidewalk and right-of-way while maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings.
- Assists with performing daily maintenance checks. Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
- Assists with maintaining inventory and advises supervisor of any requirement for maintenance or repairs.
- Types of equipment, percentages of equipment use and areas of assignment may vary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: No experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of truck and equipment safety.
- Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
- Knowledge of operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers and other specialty equipment used for paving and surfacing asphalt driveways, such as a walk behind concrete saw and single drum rollers.
- Ability to operate single axle trucks in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to read and write to record pickups and maintain daily records.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully.
- Ability to obtain IMSA Work Zone Safety or Flagging Certification within 12 months of employment.
- Ability to obtain the Georgia Soil and Erosion Certification 1A within 18 months of employment.
- Must possess a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type vehicle operated with good driving history.
OTHER
This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation. Involves more than 50% travel from office to other locations.
