Engineering Equipment Operator
Department: Watersheds / Reservoirs
Reports To: Watershed Manager

JOB SUMMARY
Performs daily operations related to improving, rebuilding and maintaining interior roads and related structures within the watersheds, often working in remote and steep locations in wildland environment. Includes installing culverts, clearing ditches, removing trees, clearing brush and tree stumps.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Operates tracked and wheeled earth moving heavy equipment to perform duties related to maintenance, rebuild, and repair.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner, also ensuring proper maintenance of machinery on a regular basis. Reports any malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisor immediately.
- Operates tracked and wheeled dump truck to spread gravel in remote and steep locations.
- Operates forestry mulching equipment for the purpose of cutting fire breaks.
- Constructs/installs erosion control devices such as retaining walls, sediment ponds and silt fences
- Operates various construction/maintenance equipment, which may include a chain saw, rotary hammer, jack hammer, rotary hammer, concrete saws, motors, pumps, and various other hand and power tools.
- Knowledgeable in operation of boats, trucks, heavy construction equipment, backhoe, riding mower, bush hog, dump truck, tractor, bulldozer, track rotating dump truck, skid steer, and forestry mulcher.
- Hauls rock, soil, debris, equipment, materials, etc., as needed to and from work sites.
- Ensures fire roads are maintained. Performs all duties according to established policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in operating earth moving heaving equipment for road construction and maintenance is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess First Aid and CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
Must have experience in construction, re-construction and maintaining forest roads, tributary crossings and fire breaks to USFS standards. Must have experience in operation of forestry mulching equipment. Extensive experience in felling and bucking chain saw operations in forest blow down environment. Experience in erosion control involving construction of erosion control devices such as retaining walls, sediment pond construction and silt fence installation
