DESCRIPTION
Responsible for patron services in the branch libraries, including circulating materials, providing reference assistance, presenting children's programming, and supervising part-time workers and volunteers in the absence of senior branch staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides circulation, reference and readers' advisory services.
- Receives and processes new periodicals and newspapers, DVD's, Books on Tape and CD, maintains the collection by mending, processing gifts, shelving, shelf-reading and weeding
- Assists patrons with the use of public computers, printers, and photocopiers.
- Assists patrons in the use of library resources and materials to include the library's automated system (Georgia Pines), the Internet, Galileo, a variety of on-line products, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Prepares cash reports, collects statistics, makes bulletin boards, and performs opening and closing routines.
- Assists in routine operation of the library, supervises subordinate staff in the absence of senior personnel, and responds in emergencies.
- Prepares and presents children's programming and assists with Summer Reading.
- Serves as resource subordinate personnel and on staff and planning committees as required

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}
Experience: Two (2) years of library services and customer service experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of functions, policies, and procedures of the library system and automated circulation and cataloging system (Dewey decimal system, MARC format, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and Boolean search techniques.)
- Familiarity with library collections, reference sources and finding aids, and of currently popular materials
- Knowledge of personal computers to include the library's Georgia PINES system, the Internet, Galileo, on-line and CD-ROM products, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in presenting children's programming, and the operation of audiovisual equipment.
Skills:
- Skill in customer relations, dealing with complaints and problem situations, and in interacting with a wide-cross section of people.
- Mastery of personal computers, standard office machinery and of the operation of a large vehicle.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
Licensing:
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving history. If state license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

- Travel is required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
