A Typical Workday May Include:
Under the supervision of the electric distribution supervisor, performs skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the City’s electric distribution system. Responsible for exercising judgment as to the details of assigned work within prescribed operating procedures. Responsible for maintenance of power lines, electric equipment and transformers.
- Sets and changes out electric poles
- Sets pad mounts and hangs transformers
- Hangs capacitor banks
- Building new primary and secondary lines
- Hooks up primary and secondary meters
- Operates a trencher and backhoe for installation
- Digs trenches for undergrounds wiring
- Backfilling ground and yard work
- Installs and repairs street light poles
- Installs and repairs streetlights and wiring
- Maintains full knowledge of all circuits and circuit breakers and switches for switching safely
- Trims trees for clearance
- Repairs meters
- Will be responsible for on-call coverage outside normal working hours
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position
- Abide by all standards, conduct and policies as stated in the Employee Handbook.
- Attend departmental staff meetings as scheduled.
- Attend all training required to meet quality standards of position.
- Perform housekeeping responsibilities within the FBO office, restrooms, meeting space, break area, pilots lounge, and flight planning area.
- Answer phones and perform other administrative tasks in FBO.
- Supervise and participate in building and airport grounds security while on duty.
- Provide prompt and professional customer service.
What You Will Need:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- A Valid Driver’s license is required.
- Completion of an apprentice program or technical training as a lineman.
- Kansas Class B CDL is required within three months.
What Will Put You Ahead:
- Five years of electrical distribution installation and maintenance experience
- Safe driving practices and knowledge of state and local laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on streets, roads and highways.

- Has ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, reaching overhead, grasping, lifting, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and handling of objects; is on feet most of shift
- Has the ability of frequently lifting up to 50 pounds, occasionally 75 pounds with assistance
- Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction. Ability to see and read instructions, meters, gauges, and technical materials. Must be able to distinguish between colors
