The Trades Worker II performs general and semi-skilled work relating to general carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC disciplines in support of preventative maintenance, general maintenance, and repairs on city facilities, park facilities, and equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager or his designee. The successful candidate shall be expected to work productively without continuous or close supervision.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
In completing assigned tasks, the Trades Worker II may be assisted by and may supervise the Trades Worker I. Performs various facility maintenance work to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and employees, minimize major repair / replacement costs, and / or extend the useful life of equipment / fixtures.
Interacts with the public and / or employees to give directions / information, explain work activities / procedures, identify their service needs, and / or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance to HVAC systems as directed.
Performs minor plumbing repairs and preventative maintenance as directed.
Maintains accurate records of work orders and preventative maintenance schedules. Prepares written materials (e.g., repair status, activity logs, etc.) to document activities and / or convey information.
Perform monthly inspection checks of A / C units in all city buildings to ensure that the systems are running clean, efficient, and safe for employees and patrons of the facility and to eliminate all hazards.
May be required to assist in moving various furniture and related items to relocate / rearrange workstations / offices and set up for meetings, activities, and events.
Responding to emergency situations during and after hours may be required to resolve immediate safety concerns.
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in the use and care of small power and manual tools.
- Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License.
- Minimum 2-3 years as a semi-skilled worker in one or more basic building maintenance trades.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Must have HVAC or Plumbing Certification for maintenance or be able to acquire within six (6) months of hire.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
Two (2) years of full-time building maintenance work or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Candidates must undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting and drug screening.
