The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Senior Equipment Operator - Solid Waste assigned to the Public Works Department. This is a full-time, nonexempt position with benefits.
The Senior Equipment Operator, under general supervision, performs solid waste and recycling collection services by operating a variety of medium to heavy equipment vehicles utilized in solid waste training. Trains, monitors, and provides direction to lower-level workers and conducts annual remedial training. May provide coverage in the absence of lead operators or supervisors and performs other duties as assigned.
Performs pre and post-trip inspections. Inspects and maintains equipment using knowledge of DOT rules and regulations. Performs equipment spot checks, checks all fluids greases all moving parts, and fuels equipment. Communicates and works closely with the Fleet maintenance shop personnel to ensure all equipment is safe and in working order.
Work with the solid waste management team to develop and administer training programs for equipment operators that include safety, driving routes, landfill dumping procedures, shop maintenance procedures, and all other operational processes.
Follows all safety rules and regulations, keeps all equipment and work areas in a safe operating condition; reports any and all safety hazards, traffic problems, equipment problems, and emergency situations. Performs any maintenance and repairs to equipment and tools within the scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. Notifies the supervisor/leads of safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations.High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment.
Valid Arizona Class A CDL Driver's License.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Work requires the ability to write work orders, reports and logs.
Requires the ability to properly manage time and assigned city resources.
Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action.
The incumbents in this position may contact others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City. Employees must maintain regular work hours. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
