Position Summary: The Azle Memorial Library is seeking a dynamic addition to our team as a part-time Library Assistant. If you are self-motivated, organized and can provide excellent customer service to all members of the public, this could be a perfect opportunity for you. Our ideal applicant will be reliable, detail oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment as a team player. Familiarity with books and other library media is a plus!
Essential job duties include, but are not limited to, sorting, shelving books, assisting the public in the use of library computers, online catalog, and other equipment. The Part-Time Library Assistant uses specialized library software system to input, organize, and locate patron and material information; and communicates effectively and courteously with members of the public, other city employees, and community groups. The successful applicant is proficient with computers, Microsoft Word, and web-based applications/search engines as necessary to assist patrons.
Physical Conditions: Shelves and retrieves books and materials with the use of step stools from shelves up to 8 feet in height. Responsible for moving and lifting stacks of books; with the ability to bend, stoop, push, move and lift from 5-25 pounds on a frequent basis, and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Education and Experience: Must be 18 . High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Prefer at least one year of work experience in library, or other customer service-related field. Must have the ability to efficiently learn routine library procedures, and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and library shelving is preferred.
Starting Pay: $13.38
Benefits: Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) eligible
Schedule: 25-29 hours per week (see potential schedule below). Applicant availability must be flexible; as schedule requires the ability to work daytime, evening and Saturday hours and adjust schedule as needed. This is a year-round position (not seasonal).
The library is closed on Sundays, and the Part Time Library Assistant will be off one additional day during the week. The initial schedule will be determined at time of hire and could differ from what is listed in the sample below.
Sample Part-Time Schedule:
Sunday: OFF
Monday: OFF
Tuesday: 9am-2pm
Wednesday: 9am-2pm
Thursday: 9am-2pm
Friday: 11am-4pm
Saturday: 10am-4pm (off one Saturday per month)

Wednesday: 9am-6pm
Thursday: 9am-8pm
Friday: 9am-6pm
Saturday: 8am-4:30pm
Plus, 1-3 special events outside of hours listed above per year.
