Job Summary:
The Utilities Tech III leads and performs general, emergency, and preventive maintenance, as well as construction and repair of City water and wastewater lines. This role involves operating heavy machinery and supervising lower-level employees, ensuring efficient and safe operations in all assigned tasks.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in utility maintenance.
- A valid Class B commercial driver’s license.
- Class C or D Water or Wastewater License
- Preferred- Class B Water or Wastewater License or must obtain within 12 months of employment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assignment included scheduled on-call rotation.
- Manages and supervises employees performing related functions.
- Manage any combination of the following tasks: water distribution, water line maintenance, wastewater collection, and/or sewer line maintenance.
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance and quality control checks of City infrastructure, property equipment and vehicles.
- Will operate power tool operation and be responsible for material handling as well as proper recording of all work orders and general support at work sites.
- Collaborates and assist with other City Departments with City events, natural disasters and/or state of emergency situations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Practices and techniques of performing field inspections related to areas of assignment.
- City geography including street locations.
- Department safety rules and procedures.
- General management practices.
Skills in:
- Operating construction and excavation equipment.
- Supervising a team of employees.
- Working under stress and using good judgment in emergency situations.
- Tactfully responding to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Establishing effective working relationships with employees.
- Following written and oral instructions.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. May work in outside settings. Subject to sitting for an extended period of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 75 pounds. Working with a wide variety of people, experiencing different levels of emotions
