SALARY RANGE: $73,944.00 - $102,273.60 ANNUALLY
BACKGROUND CHECK

PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks seeks dependable, qualified individuals to fill two temporary non-civil service Community Health Nurse I (Summer) positions.
Job Summary: Manages the camp health and safety program, provides medical treatment to campers when necessary, and administers medication to campers. Complies with all state requirements and acts as a health consultant for camp staff.
Supervisor: Reports to Chief of Recreation Programming
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Knowledgeable of Recreation and Parks Camp Health Policy.
- Follow all guidelines as outlined in COMAR 10.16.07 Health and Medication Requirements for Youth Camps.
- Must be available for consultation with recreation camp staff regarding camper’s health, injury, and illness during camp hours of operation.
- Administer medication and treatment to campers when needed.
- Identify camper medical needs (special diets, etc.) and ensure communication with the appropriate camp staff.
- Provide for camper illness, condition, or emergency care, make appropriate referrals, and provide for follow-up care as warranted.
- Keep records in the camp health log regarding the administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs.
- Follow state standards in maintaining such records.
- Follow up on incident reports.
- Work with BCRP HR regarding all reported Agency-related COVID-19 concerns.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATES:
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland or registered nurse licensure from a Multi-Start Licensure compact participant state is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of nursing practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of nursing theory and process.
- Knowledge of professional nursing standards
- Ability to work with youth with and without disabilities.
- Ability to assess the physical and emotional needs of individuals and families.
- Ability to effectively deal with others.
- Ability to maintain records and write reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Qualifications
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse Practitioner, or Physician in the State of Maryland.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is required.
- Knowledge of the Maryland State Youth Camp health requirements and standards a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
- Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
